EXPERIMENTAL MODAL ANALYSIS

Experimental modal testing has also been used
over the past several decades but has developed tremendously over
the past decade. Experimental modal testing is used in a wide
variety of industries to determine system characteristics of
systems and components. There has been much published on the
experimental modal process and is not discussed in detail herein.
Over the past several years there has been a tremendous effort expended in developing better measurement and reduction techniques to develop highly accurate models. Excitation techniques to better excite the structure and reduction techniques utilizing multiple reference data have helped in the process. However, the development of the experimental modal model is always troubled by difficult measurement situations and nonlinearities which cause distortion of the extracted model.
