John O'Callahan, PhD., is a Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Director of the Computer Aided Engineering Design Center at UMASS Lowell. He received his B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering at Northeastern University in 1961, 1963 and 1969. He joined the faculty at UMASS Lowell in 1975. He also serves as Associate Editor of the International Journal of Analytical and Experimental Modal Analysis. A consultant and researcher with over 30 years experience in finite element methods as well as analytical and experimental modal analysis, Dr. O'Callahan has developed numerous software packages for finite element analysis and modal analysis with particular emphasis on combining these data bases for use in dynamic analysis of structures. He has written over 50 technical papers in the areas of finite element modeling, composite modeling and modal analysis. His main areas of interest recently are in the area of analytical model reduction/expansion techniques, analytical model optimization using experimental modal data and localization of model error using analytical and experimental modal methods.
John O'Callahan retired at the end of 2003.
