Evaluation of DOF Correlation using the Coordinate Orthogonality Check - IMAC 13

A newly developed technique, referred to as the Coordinate Orthogonality Check (CORTHOG), identifies how each physical degree of freedom contributes to the overall orthogonality relationship between modal vectors on a mass weighted basis. The CORTHOG can also be viewed very much like a coherence function relating the similarity between the analytical and experimental modal vectors.
The CORTHOG used together with the Pseudo Orthogonality Check (POC) gives a greater understanding of the correlation (or lack of correlation) between modal vectors. A review of the CORTHOG theory is presented. A CORTHOG evaluation with actual experimental data on a welded structure is presented to show how different degrees of freedom contribute to the orthogonality matrix and to show where differences between vector sets exist.
